Wednesday 20th August, 7 pm at the BGCA Building, 3 Lockhart Road,
Wanchai.
Some of our committee members will bring along various instruments used
in gem and crystal identification, and show us how to use them. This is
a great opportunity to get some expert help with identifying the odd
samples which have been puzzling you or years. Bring along
minerals or books or instruments to swap and sell too.

Field
Trip to the Mines of Jiangxi - 江西礦區考察
27th to 30th November 2008 This trip will take us to the Xiefang
fluorite mine and to the Shangping quartz mine, where beautiful
specimens of green fluorite with milky quartz have been
found. We shall take the train from Shenzhen to Ganzhou in
Jiangxi (a journey of about 6 hours) where we shall be met by a guide
from AAA Minerals (website www.aaamineral.com) who will accompany us
for the rest of the trip. The total cost will be
less than HKD3,000, including the train journeys, with an additional
charge for single occupancy of the hotel rooms. Numbers are
limited, so hurry and book your place by sending a deposit of HKD2,500
to The Mineralogy Society of Hong Kong, 11D Alpine Court, 12 Kotewall
Road, Hong Kong. Alternatively you can transfer the money to
our account number 004 082 706813 001 and send a copy of the advice by
email to our treasurer, Dougal Pitt, at dougal.pitt@sappi.com, copied
to Anthea at strickja@netvigator.com.

Notice: Society Field Trip to Osaka, Japan in 2009.
We have some problems with the Japan field trip, according to Alfredo
(the guide) as the mines are very small and accommodation is difficult
to arrange for a large group. We may need to set a maximum number of
participants. Members who are interested in attending the Osaka Mineral
