Zeolite Collecting in the Faroe Islands
Speaker :Luís Martins
Language : English

The speaker is our member Luís Martins, who will speak in English about the field trip taken by the “Sussex Mineral and Lapidary Society” to the Faroe Islands last August, where they collected a number of very interesting zeolites. The Faroe Islands, a self-governing archipelago that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, are of volcanic origin. They were built over a period of a few million years, about 55 million years ago in mid Paleogene times, when Europe and Greenland started to separate to open up what became the Northeast Atlantic Ocean.Luís has contributed to clubs in the UK with some talks on pegmatites and Portuguese mineral localities. He is here in Hong Kong with a multinational company and we are happy to have him as a relatively new member. We look forward to finally meeting up again on Thursday 9th July when we shall also hold the draw for the prizes for the four quizzes that were held by Google Form.
